Hide Folder With Images Appearing in Android Gallery App

When undesired thumbnails from various folders appear in the (Samsung) Gallery App, it irritates us and breaches our privacy. A photoset set of a naked lady beside the thumbnails of grandmother looks is not great showbiz anywhere on this earth. We are used using the Gallery app to view the images captured by a camera and some of the downloaded images. However, Android is designed to scan the whole device and show thumbnails in the gallery. Apart from erotic photos appearing in the gallery, a potential disturbance is the appearance of album art and WhatsApp images in the Gallery. Most of the users want a fix and continue enjoying album art, erotic photos etc as well as enjoying the Gallery app. Fortunately, the fix avoiding any secure folder app is not quite difficult, at least for the users who knows how a create a file on Android device. The method we have described is for hiding completely legal stuff on your device rescuing from annoyance. We are not describing “how to hide illegal things”.

In Nokia Symbian OS, I used an app named X-plore (it is a file manager app) by Lonely Cat Games. X-plore had a decent smooth photo viewer and the folders could re-named starting with dot to avoid Symbian to easily find the directories. X-plore is available for Android too. However, the story with Android in the context of hiding is not so straight forward.

Install X-plore. Go to the app configuration and enable two options :

1. Show hidden files
2. Use fingerprint sensor

else your friend, wife, mother etc will freely explore your content to annoy you. Restart the app. Take that your need is the creation of a directory full of erotic photosets. Then create a directory named something like photo-set in the SD card (so that you can manually sync with your laptop).

Inside the photo-set directory, create a blank file named .nomedia. You can create the .nomedia file within X-Plore app by a tap on “New text file”. Edit the .txt extension and make it .nomedia. X-Plore will want to write privileges on SD card – grant it. After the job is done, restart your Android device.

Now for the Samsung smartphones, Secure Folder is a feature which you can use to lock with a passcode, a pattern or even your fingerprint or iris. Depending on your desired level of security, you can add the files in Secure Folder. This is an optional step. To put apps in a Secure Folder on your Samsung Android phone: Go to Settings and select “Biometrics and security.” Tap on “Secure Folder,” then “Lock type.” Choose between Pattern, PIN, Password or a biometric option like fingerprint or iris, and create that password. Go to your app drawer and tap “Secure Folder.” Tap “Add apps.” Select the things you want in the folder, then tap “Add” in the upper right corner. Tap “Lock” back in the Secure Folder menu. Try to access an app you added to the folder and make sure it prompts you for your passcode or fingerprint.
