In short, JBoss unified Push Server allows to send native push messages to Apple™s Push Notification Service (APNS) and Google™s Cloud Messaging (GCM). So this set is for more control from programatic point of view. We can SSH to the apps, we can normally like other OpenShift quick start and most importantly – this is free of cost. Paid part is for getting included to the other device manufacturers or platform providers like Apple. You need to manage this part yourself. Control is more, recurring cost is lesser but knowledge of programming required will be higher.
On the other hand, Urban Airship is frankly a set of Software as a Service. Urban Airship has ready to use analytics, offers engagement strategies and push notification features. It uses location, platform and preference to deliver tailored and engaging notifications to users. The toolkit has a web based editor to schedule updates. There is a Mobile Relationship Management feature for contextual analytics reporting. There is Wallet Studio to integrate with Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Push Services suports Android, iOS, Windows 8+, BlackBerry, Amazon Fire Phone. Recurring cost is more, features are easy to get, no headache for basic pushing – no Apple, Google related works. Less control on the backed – practically you can not control their backend. SaaS model of service delivery.
