Google Discontinues PageSpeed Service Promoting EdgeCast. Google, Widely Known For Mass Surveillance Tools Will Discontinue it From 3rd August, 2015. Not only limited to this official news, they also wrote “however you should not rely on this! We recommend that you login to the console and look at your list of domains. Anything that shows up as “Enabled” is at risk.” We used PageSpeed Service for few days, around 3 years back. It is pathetic by quality. We were using Rackspace and Akamai at that time. You will have an idea what current services we use from our setup page. It is quite odd and suspicious why suddenly they donated a backlink towards EdgeCast with promotive words. Google discontinues PageSpeed Service without mentioning any reason. Official wordings “regretfully decided that the time had come to re-focus their efforts elsewhere” is not quite reliable words.
Google Discontinues PageSpeed Service Promoting EdgeCast : Budget or Another Ponzi Scheme?
Google is quite famous for PRISM and NSA Spyware works, if the reader is not aware of the works can visit Richard Stallman’s personal website (stallman dot org) to understand the yet discovered range of “services”. You can read our article on Google Domains if you want to run some kind of sua moto.
We can not comment or give opinion about possible plan around this discontinuation. Some money is expected to be gained via EdgeCast for recommending that can only be a second way of earning money, everyone knows that Akamai is the global Standard in CDN and page speed services. From IBM to HP all uses their services. But what can be the primary reason of discontinuation is difficult to guess. It was more normal to continue this niche for promoting their DNS and Domain services. It is not exactly easy to think that the users after discontinuation will use Google’s PaaS and VMs on kind of closed source model.

The remaining fear of spyware remains in the distributed software named Page Speed Module. Source Code is free but it is difficult to eliminate the change of inviting surveillance. We usually do not recommend using HHVM (by Facebook) and Page Speed module (for Nginx).
Google is continuing their discontinuation saga – Google Codes, FreeBase and so on.
