An active stylus is quite helpful for certain professionals. Apart from drawing sketches and illustrations, an active stylus helps to sign us like on real paper. All of us know that most of Samsung’s flagship smartphones support an active stylus.
But the cost of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphones is often prohibitive to many Android users. Additionally, Samsung’s support even within the warranty period is like meh. These days, it is also heard that Samsung has denied someone’s flagship to cover a manufacturing defect within one year’s warranty. In other words, we need to know our options for Android smartphones with a stylus other than Samsung.
What is an Active Stylus?
Active styluses have a directional electromagnetic field. Conductor loops in the display of the device to be operated determine the pointer position by comparing the induced signal strengths. Additional pen information such as pen pressure or pressing a button on the pen is digitized, modulated to the electromagnetic field and determined together with the position data on the computer of the device to be operated. The pins are powered either by a battery integrated with the pen or directly from the device to be operated via induction.

Active styluses are commonly used for electronic notes, drawings, document annotations, and accurate object selection. When used with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, the stylus’ handwritten input can be converted directly into digital text and saved for direct editing.
In the writing position, the capacitive screen is temporarily disabled by approaching the display within a few centimetres of the display, thus preventing unwanted input by the palm or finger. The contact pressure can be detected and transmitted in the pen to create a realistic font display and handwriting. If pens are held over displays without direct contact, the hover or mouse-over effect can be imitated.
