Twitter™s Changed Design for Their Desktop Website and Now the UI Matches With Mobile Interface. Let Us Dig Out the Details. Actually, this phase of Twitter™s Changed Design of UI side was expected as Twitter announced their upcoming this new look in January 2014.
Twitter™s Changed Design for Their Desktop Website : Can Be a Visual Shock For First Time Login
Yes, if you are login after a day and is accustomed with the old design, Twitter™s Changed Design UI can throw you a shock. Because it is sleek, faster loading and matches more with their Mobile Apps / Websites counterpart. There is subtle resemblance with overall concept of OS X Mavericks Ads (or website) – The Old Black and Blue Color combination is fully replaced with White and Blue colored UI with excellent Typography.
We are NOT saying that Twitter has copied or GOT INSPIRED from Apple’s design. It is normal to adapt with the ongoing web design style.
Twitter™s Changed Design for Their Desktop Website : What We Noticed
While Twitter has not precisely said all about their changes, these are what we found. Here is official Tweet about the changes :

Twitter has a refreshed look on the web! To change the accent color, pick a new Link color in your Design settings: https://t.co/EXEhImdngn

- Change in Color Scheme (White and Blue)
- Bigger Buttons
- Old Generation 3D effect for buttons are out now, button design is more closer to usual HTML5 buttons
- Faster loading time, although it do not fall among the designing part
- The Follower number now is not as precise digits but in K or M (like I have 35.9K which is precisely 35, 927 at the time of writing), Tweets however is not shortened or may be I have lesser Tweets!
- Clicking on certain button will activate the new “Loading” Ajax animation on the top bar (try to click on your Follower link on Twitter)
- The Search Box has been changed (it is horribly bad as color combination goes)
- While navigating, a Twitter bird icon appears on the top middle (Ajax loading animation also appears there)
- Bigger Fonts
- A small own Profile box Appears on the left sided column while at Home
- Compose New Tweet box on the left sided column got a lighter color boundary now
- Media Gallery is on White background
- Font Family is Helvetica Neue in major Headings, possibly that is giving more resemblance with OS X Mavericks Ads (I would love to see Proxima Nova though).
- A Dot appears on Active Selected Nav Bar when there is new Tweets
- No change in Verified Icon – It is not matching with this typical HTML5+CSS3 flat design
There are definite Flaws from Designing part of view. As Twitter Icon is Blue (and now in the top middle), it practically looks odd if you are not using some design that exactly looks like Twitter Official profiles. Twitter needs to think about Width and user’s place images (some set it to top left) – it looks quite odd even on a 15″ non-Retina MacBook Pro.
Most of these changes are towards a clean design which loads faster. Obviously, there will be minor flaws, it is easy to say; its quite difficult to fully rightly design while on the HTML5+CSS3 combo and hundreds of Browser-Device combination. We think there is not much change in UI for API based actions, although we got less time to test. Yes, personally overall I liked this Twitter™s Changed Design, do not forget that I actually do understand designing! You can view my deviantArt Profile (got an opportunity to promote!).
