Amazon Pushes Cloud Services into the Enterprise Segment. So far, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud offerings were considered for startups and SMEs. Although Amazon themselves believe to be already long being present for the Enterprise segment – The Washington Post, Adobe, Nokia, General Electric and Tata Motors, uses their cloud services. Amazon Pushes Cloud Services into the Enterprise Segment – But, How Much Late has been done by now and what can be the future in real?
Among the market observers equally three recently introduced products will be what that Amazon will give efforts behind – these financially strong group of users are Cloud Trail, Workspaces and AppStream.
Cloud Trail – for Compliance and Security
Cloud trail documents all activities of the users with the AWS offers. The collected data will be stored on the S3 storage platform Glacier and there are companies ready for evaluation. For this purpose, they can be either be using the AWS Management Console or AWS Command Line Interface or third-party management applications.

The offer is interesting for companies among other compliance aspects. The recorded data was analyzed and log files can show that access to AWS resources comply with the legal framework. The same goes for safety analyzes, the data can also provide information on vulnerabilities and failed access attempts, such as when data is requested, missing for the appropriate permissions. The new services have not yet logged in the API calls of all AWS services to the covered activities include, among other far Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Store (EBS) and Relational Database Service (RDS) and the Identity and Access Management (IAM). Other services will follow. Cloud trail is the service that is only available in USA.
Workspaces – the Virtual Desktop in the Cloud
But Amazon might have planned the steps quite well. AWS Workspaces is a VDI solution from the cloud . All necessary desktop operating services and applications are from Amazon Data Center streamed on devices such as PCs, laptops , tablets and smartphones. Even Microsoft Office products are ready to apply, interested parties can rent them on a monthly basis. Amazon uses PCoIP (PC over IP) protocol of Teradici. It compresses and encrypts screen content and can synchronize files between virtual and real devices. A special treat for enterprise customers is the compatibility with Microsoft’s “Active Directory”.
Conclusion
Amazon, right now is working with only at US. To us, it is too late for Amazon to re-target and re-start their Cloud Journey for the Enterprise. It is quite obvious that the services will never be complete failure but they are too weak in front of the biggest competitor named OpenStack – which basically introduced by Rackspace Cloud and others joined. With IaaS and all possible services, Rackspace itself created such a standard, which is tough to break. On long term, it does not appear to be very productive.
