Platform as a Service : No standards, no best practices
However, the Platform as a Service is a growing market although it possibly has not yet out of its infancy. There are still no established market leader, no experience of ideal rules for best use of Platform as a Service and therefore there is no best practices or established technology standards. As before, the introduction of Platform as a Service is associated with uncertainty and risks for businesses. Contrary to the generous promises providers of PaaS market are still uncertain and volatile.
Platform as a Service : Three reasons what PaaS still fails
Firstly, the suppliers are to blame. This is due to the fact, that some of the new PaaS providers are reluctant to take their offerings and pursue a defensive strategy. Established suppliers offer only in turn offers proprietary solutions and envision Platform as a Service merely as a vehicle of their old architecture models and workloads for sale.

The most PaaS offerings are still for the development phase. There is also no reliable method for providing PaaS cloud services in the areas of integration, applications and business process management.
There is currently a lack of platform standards, where the programming model is used. As a result, companies those source platforms, tied at the mercy of a single vendor. Here lies the large uncertainties, because an action on IaaS can not be undone so easily.
Platform as a Service : Light at the End of the Tunnel
However, market researchers also see light at the end of the tunnel. In the coming years they predict this market sector will get a significant growth. Until the end of 2013, according to the forecast, however, all major software vendors need to have the PaaS product offerings in the portfolio. By 2016, there will also be new programming models that form the basis of new technological standards. With increasing standardization of PaaS offerings will increase the providers the chance to sit at the top of the market.
