Feel The Sound on MacBook Pro : What MacBook Pro Has By Default and What is Needed
When we purchased our second MacBook Pro, the Premium Reseller’s store thankfully giveaway (almost, there was $20 or something like than token money for the offer, that is a fraction, this was a limited customer based offer) one THX Certified Pro Grade Speaker System, it costs itself few hundred dollars. It is for studio grade usage. You can go below zero level to track any issue with minute hum, balance etc. The cables are RC types and it is quite bigger thing.
If it was not a giveaway, as a non audio professional probably I would never buy such a system. After listening the sound on it, it made me to feel the biggest truth – what usually the Apple Premium Stores keeps are the optimized hardware. MacBook Pro (15″, Mid 2012 in our case) does have quite good hardware on board. It is enough even for the enthusiasts. It is matter of fact, I personally have quite good number of audiophile grade devices.

So, the first thing is you hardware. If you do not have an audiophile pro grade output device like an EarPod (EarPod is recommended for lighter listening) or a good headphone or a certified speaker system. You will get a list on store.apple.com to get an idea.
When you will really feel the need for an external interface interface for pro grade sound. If you are not an audiophile or lack knowledge on acoustic technology, go to the sound technology specific forums to directly ask them. The sound port on a MacBook Pro is optical out. It is not a cheap output found on those Microsoft Windows stamped crap quality PCs. You can read about Fibre Channel Technology here.
Usually any apple audio device comes with a better DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) than those typical PC computer’s built in audio out. A MacBook Pro is manufactured for a premium user for professional usage. Sound is one of them ! Honestly, with the MacBook Pro default sound card, the only real difference we noticed was the latency drop for just listening, audio reproduction is bigger technology and acoustic engineers know better than us about that part.
Feel The Sound on MacBook Pro : Softwares
To Feel The Sound on MacBook Pro, iTunes 11 is the best software. Only third party music player that we can certify from our practical experience is VLC Player.
First about iTunes 11. What most never does is – reading the documents from Help link on iTunes software and directly asking Apple support – if you are enjoying the software support, they will help you ! Now coming on iTunes 11. First go to the Preferences :
Click that Preferences and use this kind of settings :
Second is Equalizer, that is here :
Third is optional, a third party software named Audio Essentials for Mac. It has a limited free edition, it itself installs another needed software, you can get it here :

It is basically what VLC does. It is software based emulation of more effects. These softwares can drain the battery (yes of MacBook Pro) like insane. Never tick that starting with startup option while initial settings.
And you must know about your need for THX certified products :
