We are in a bad situation as this year again the number of cases is increasing. A lot of companies recovering from the loss out of lockdown will face a severe challenge. As millions remain home due to a pandemic, residential energy consumption increases up to 30%. Meeting this energy demand is not easy at least for your wallet. All of us remember being asked by our parents to turn the lights off during the day citing various stories but yet we have not learned it.
Use LED as much as possible
Possibly you can remember how much energy we used to spend during the days of incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes. LED has drastically reduced the consumption resulting in low energy consumption from the lights.

Judge whether automation will help
I tend to automate the outside lights of the building as well as 1-2 lights. This not only reduces the workload but also helps to switch off early in the morning. Adding sensor, timer to fans and air conditioners may help.
Identify which sucks significant energy
Usually, the major energy-sucking device is an air conditioner during the summer and a heater during winter. Try to install a 5 or 3 starts rated inverter air conditioner and run at 25 to 28 degree Celsius with a blower at low speed. Try as much insulation as possible for your house. Insulated walls significantly decrease the need for cooling and heating.
Cleverly use a water pump, washing machine, dishwasher
If you air-dry the clothes, it will reduce the electricity consumption. If you run the washing machine, dishwasher with a full load (instead of small loads multiple times) it will decrease the electricity consumption. I could not discover any effective bill reducing method for water pump other than controlling water usage (when the water is from a natural source, not supplied by the local government via a pipeline). If you keep your tap flowing without reason, ultimately it is increasing the need of running the water pump for a longer period. Always try to prefer the water supplied by the local government since it saves significant electricity.
Maybe you need an alternative source of energy?
Unfortunately, except for the generators, nothing going to be robust and cost-effective from the point of one-time investment. They are great to fight outages. You need a battery, inverter and solar panel to store electricity.
